An Idea For An Alternative Computer World

I've had an idea for a long time to create a computer world of my own. I'm not sure I remotely agree with it, and I'm not sure it holds any water, but I wanted to get it down for the sake of sharing it.

Everything would be written from scratch, using Forth bootstrapped on assembly to create a system to edit and execute code. The system would be built upon over time to support features as it needed them. This idea appealed to me because:

  • It would force me to learn the intimate details of everything, giving me deeper knowledge
  • It would create a totally private, secure computing system
  • It would encourage me to learn Forth more deeply

The idea also stirred as something that people should have to do, so that by the time someone has a full system it is secure (due to being unique) and they have an intimate understanding of it. This would lead to computers and their discussion methods being used by only people who had acquired deep knowledge, leading to a better computing space. They could also implement other simple languages as a base e.g. Scheme, leading to further diversity of thought and systems.

Nowadays I think the idea sucks outside a personal scale, at least other than if it was used for like a super niche forum or something, but it remains interesting to me nonetheless because of the potential such a world would have to save the modern decay of programming/computing.
